Minutes of the meeting of the Friends of Ruskin Park, held on Thursday, 12th September, 2002
Present : Councillor Veronica Hardstaff (Chair); Rosemary Telfer; Councillor Diane Leek; Fraser McDermott (Ranger); Chris Ireland (Treasurer); Brenda Wren; Sarah Watson (Consultant)

1. Minutes of the previous meeting and matters arising
1.1. Item 1.6. should have read “£8,000” not “£800”
1.2. Veronica has tried to meet with Denise Barker and has talked to Gillian Missen.
2. Consultant’s report
The draft report was discussed in detail and it was agreed that it was an excellent report and should be accepted, subject to one or two minor alterations :
The final copy would be completed and delivered by the next week @ 1 copy on colour and one in black and white.
Sarah confirmed that another invoice was on its way. It was agreed that Sarah should be paid for the extra time she had put in and was asked to send in an invoice for this. The meeting warmly thanked Sarah for her work.
3. Funding
3.1. Rosemary reported on the meeting she, Sarah and Fraser had held with the Community Chest/SRB officers at NUCA. After some discussion, Veronica offered to complete the Community Chest application forms by the Monday deadline. It was agreed that the application would be made for 2 posts, with the intention of applying for further funding to continue them, if necessary. The bid will include a note that the consultant’s report is to follow.
It was felt that support from Parks and Open Spaces was vital. Fraser agreed to contact Dave Bradley, Lucy Heath/Dave Cooper urgently and ring Veronica with dates they would be free to meet with FORP.
4. Any other business
4.1. Veronica circulated correspondence from Sheffield Community Transport
4.2.
Diane has been contacted by Andrew Cannon, who would like to display
posters of local birds on the park notice board. It was agreed that Diane would
ask him to send the photos to Veronica.
4.3.
Chris reported that we have received a certificate of merit from
Street Force, commending us for helping to improve Sheffield’s environment.
4.4.
Rosemary asked for photos for Ian Loasby, for inclusion on the web
site. Veronica, Sarah and Diane to send some on.
4.5.
Chris is to apply on our behalf to Street Force for 350 daffodils,
500 crocuses and 500 snowdrops. It was agreed that FORP would arrange planting,
in conjunction with St Mary’s School.
4.6.
Chris has collated a list of volunteers and their input for Sean
at NUCA.
4.7.
Sarah has a good deal of material left from her work, including the
model of the park. Rosemary agreed to store this.
4.8. Sarah reported back from the street condition survey and circulated the letter.
5. Date and time of next meeting
Tuesday, 22nd October, 7.30 p.m. in the Thackeray Room at St Mary’s School. This will be our AGM, at which the consultant’s final report will be presented. Rosemary to notify members. Veronica to book a room at St Mary’s School and inform Rosemary, so that a poster can be made and distributed to local venues.
