Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Ruskin Park, held on Tuesday, 22^nd October at 7.30 p.m.

Present :  Councillor Veronica Hardstaff (Chair), Rosemary Telfer, Max Telfer, Deb Loasby, Caroline Haws, Councillor Diane Leek, Fraser McDermott (Ranger), Barbara Waterhouse, Jillian Missen (SCC), Sue Ireland, Chris Ireland (Treasurer), Brenda Wren

1.                  Minutes of the AGM 18^th September, 2001

These were agreed as a correct record

2.                  Chair’s report

Veronica listed the highlights of the past year :

• Erection of the signboards
• FORP’s own web site
• Bring Our Your Rubbish Day
• Successful bid for £3,500 for the appointment of consultant Sarah Watson
• Fun Day 29^th June, 2002, as part of the Walkley Festival
• August event in the park, organised by Fraser
• Further applications to the Community Chest for the appointment of a designer.

The Chair extended thanks to all members of the committee, Claire Molyneux and the Rangers for their continued support  and Ian Loasby for the creation of the web site.

4.                  Treasurer’s Report

Chris outlined the 2 main sources of income over the past year  :

• SRB funding for employment of consultant. All now spent.
• Funds raised from the Fun Day craft fair : £360
  Balance to carry forward : £465.72

The Treasurer was thanked for his hard work during the year.

5.                  Consultant’s report

Copies of the final report were circulated and the following comments made

• Parks Dept. could not take on maintenance of the willow work and would recommend ready-made models of the teenage shelter.
• The idea of separate play areas may need more thought.
• The report contains some typographical errors.
• Other groups in the city to have access to the report.

6.                  Funding

Claire Molyneux reported that last year, the Area Panel had offered £1,000, which FORP had asked to be held over. The Area Panel has now offered the original £1,000 plus a further £6,600. This will give us a total of £9,500 capital for immediate expenditure on equipment. Detail :

• £8,000                        For the playground. No deadline for expenditure
• £7,600                        From Area Panel. Must be spent this financial year
• £9,500                        S106 funding to be committed by November 2003
  
  

The following suggestions were made and agreed upon :

• £7,600 to be spent on recovering the hard play area and repairing the floodlights. Jillian Missen to provide estimates.
• Sue Ireland to approach the local school on our behalf, to add £500.
• Ernest Brewin  to be asked to provide estimates for the cost of drainage.
• Veronica to speak to Peter Price about the current funding bid.
• Claire to let FORP have a copy of the city’s Sports Strategy, which is broken down into Area Panel areas.
• Veronica to re-submit the Community Chest bid, with more detail.

7.                  Minutes of the meeting 12^th September, 2002

7.1.           Bulbs are to be planted on Monday, November 11^th. Sue Ireland reported on the arrangements that had been made with the school. Fraser’s team will supply the tools. Volunteers welcome. Sue, Deb, Rachel, Veronica and Rosemary to attend.

8.                  Any other business

8.1.           Chris Ireland needs more information on volunteers, for the SRB monitoring

8.2.           Area Panel to meet on November 21^st in Walkley Library at 7 p.m., to look at next year’s local action plan. FORP members to attend from 8 p.m., to put our views forward.

8.3.           Barbara reported that the new vicar of St Mary’s is soon to take up her post. FORP members invited to the welcome meeting on Thursday 12^th December, 7.30 p.m. Veronica, Brenda and Diane to attend.

8.4.           Claire reported that a dog bin has been put on the green opposite Netto.

8.5.           The meeting proposed a vote of thanks to Veronica for the hard work she has put in over the last year.
